Maternal Mortality Prevention

Updated: Nov 22, 2021

What Can We Do?

  • We can support campaigns and organizations that work to spread awareness and work to end MM.

  • We can advocate for policies that will create more support and care for mothers postpartum.

  • We can educate ourselves and our family members about the warning signs to watch for during pregnancy and in the year after delivery.

  • Early initiation of prenatal care by pregnant women, and continuous monitoring of pregnancy by health care providers can help prevent the development of deadly diseases or conditions.

  • It is important for all women of reproductive age to adopt healthy lifestyles (e.g., maintain a healthy diet and weight, be physically active, quit all substance use, prevent injuries) and address any health problems before getting pregnant.

  • Visit your health care provider to discuss if or when you are thinking about getting pregnant. This is important to make sure you receive appropriate medical advice and care, and have healthy pregnancies.
